Monett

Pictorial History of a Missouri Town

Monett

When the Frisco Railway decided to move its Missouri hub from Pierce City in 1887, Monett began its growth from a sleepy town into one bustling with stores, churches, and hotels, all around the depot.

To write this book for Arcadia Publishing, Elaine spent weeks visiting Monett and learning more about its history. She met many people who were proud of their town and willing to share pictures and stories.

Chapters explore the Frisco’s role in the town (with many photos of locomotives and more), economic growth, churches, schools, civic life, and the vibrant agricultural community.

Monett is part of Arcadia’s Images of America series.
